Summary
If you're a fan of the classic American music songbook, this video will delight you. The two greatest American singers together, each at the height of their powers - Frank and Ella - singing fun and stylish songs we all love. Originally broadcast on December 10, 1959, this variety show is introduced by Peter Lawford, who banters with Sinatra about the Presidential campaign of John Kennedy. Nelson Riddle leads his orchestra through "I've Got the World on a String" and "Too Marvelous for Words," where Sinatra's full-throated voice, pitch-perfect tone, and impeccable phrasing exceed expectations. The Hi-Lo's and Hermione Gingold are featured. Frank sings "It's All Right with Me" to his girlfriend and Can-Can co-star, Juliet Prowse, followed by a long dance sequence. The special guest is Ella Fitzgerald, who brilliantly performs "Just You, Just Me," then joins Sinatra for "Can't We Be Friends?" The show closes with a Gershwin melody.
