Summary
Famed Canadian American leftist documentary filmmaker Leonard Fife is one of sixty thousand draft evaders and deserters who fled to Canada to avoid serving in Vietnam. Fife, now in his late seventies, is dying of cancer in Montreal and has agreed to a final interview in which he is determined to bare all his secrets at last, to demythologize his mythologized life. The interview is filmed by his acolyte and ex-star student, Malcolm MacLeod, in the presence of Fife's wife and alongside Malcolm's producer, cinematographer, and sound technician, all of whom have long admired Fife but who must now absorb the meaning of his astonishing, dark confession.

Summary
"At eight twenty-four, this Friday, August 12, 2016, Carl Mongeau emerges from sleep without suspecting that today, his life will switch into a paranoid nightmare. Even if, like everyone else, he knows his share of small problems and various irritations, he lives an existence struck by the seals of tranquility and serenity, but in less than nine hours, they will disappear , and this, permanently. However, the day of Carl, owner of Le Lindsay bar in Drummondville, looks normal. The only really strange event is the visit of this stranger who announces something unsettling. But as this is probably a joke of bad taste, Carl focuses instead on the festivities of the 20th anniversary of his establishment that he prepares meticulously. For the man of fifty-one, despite some disappointments (like his separation after twenty-eight years of life as a couple) has always controlled his existence and today he considers that he leads the almost perfect life he deserved. ... except that from 17:05, the birthday of his bistro will be the last of his worries. Like everything about the organization of his everyday life, by the way." -- rough translation of the cover

Summary
Various websites.
In this era of individualism, this novel shows that we are closer to each other than it seems. In this story full of humanity, we follow the story of three women with very different profiles. Smita lives in India and is condemned to a miserable existence. Giulia, a carefree Italian girl, works in her father's family business. Sarah, an ambitious Montreal lawyer, reconciles career and family life. The fate of each of them will be turned upside down dramatically and their courage will be put to the test. The author intersects these three stories with a poetic narration that smoothly weaves the links between these characters that nothing seemed to relate. This portrait reminds us that we are all united by the bond of hope. Approximate translation of the French summary.
